Penn's blog
Hi there, welcome to my blog. If you haven't been on the rest of my website let me introduce myself to you.
My name is Penn (no it's not short for anything and it is a Cornish name before you ask) I am 40 years old and I live in the small fishing port of Brixham which is on the south-west coast of Devon. Myself and my family moved to Brixham in 1985 just after I left school. At the time I was a fisherman working out of Brixham. On May 18, 1986 I dived into an outdoor swimming pool in Brixham and hit my head on the bottom which resulted in spinal injury to my neck. You can read more about me if you go to my story so far...
I've had a computer since 1992 and have been tinkering around with websites since around 2000 I think. I run various websites for myself and also other people as well. I enjoy running my own website as I hope my experiences as a disabled person will help not only people have been disabled for as long as me, but mostly people who are new to spinal cord injury. Going from a fully able-bodied person to being completely immobile in a wheelchair is a shock to the system. Many people came out of hospital not knowing if there is going to be any kind of life ahead for them. Well I am living testament that there is life beyond disability. I'm not going to bullshit you and tell you that life in a wheelchair is great and something that everyone needs to experience because that would be a lie. Not a day goes by that I don't remember what it's like to be able bodied. However, this is why life now and I've got make the best of what I can from it. I wasn't interested in computers before my accident but they are something that I could not live without now. There is something out there for every disabled person whatever their disability, sometimes you've just got the look for it. Hopefully I may be able to help you find that "something" a little quicker.
I really don't know where this blog is going as it is my first attempt at blogging. I'll let you into a little secret, this isn't the original first post, I changed it around after re-searching blogging. I think most of the time I will talk about things that I'd know about, hopefully things that will help other disabled people. A lot of what I talk about maybe on my website already, but at the end of the day it doesn't hurt to repeat yourself. I might even rant and rave about life in general but let's just see how things go.
I would like to encourage people to leave comments and get involved with the subjects being discussed. Maybe you have something you can offer to the discussion, things that may be of benefit to visitors to the website. We can't know everything, there is always someone out there who knows something that the other people don't. Please don't be shy, chip in with advice, information and general chat whenever you like.
Please bear with me, let me get used to this blogging thing. I'll do my best to keep you interested and coming back.
