Is great to see a video of Brixham harbour during World War II. Not sure where the boys were being taught, probably above one of the shops opposite the old fish market. At the end of the video you see fishermen walking into a pub, I think this is probably the Sprat and mackerel

If you are a fisherman then I don't have to tell you how great the sport is. If you are a serious fisherman then you well know that when you're not fishing you're thinking about fishing, and when you are fishing your thinking about the next time you're going to go fishing. People who have the fishing bug think about it all the time. Now imagine being absolutely hooked on fishing but because of a disability you simply cannot get out and participate. Frustrating would be a complete understatement. I know this from personal experience. Thankfully I do have people who will go fishing with me, however, we have to arrange our trips, I can't simply decide to go fishing whenever I want, I've got to go when it's convenient for my helpers. That suits me, I know that people can't just drop everything when I want to go fishing. But there are people out there who don't have anyone to go with them, I really feel for these people, it must be horrible when you really want to do something but it's simply impossible because you don't have anyone to help.

I recently purchased a hot water "one cup" boiler which makes it very easy for me to make a cup of tea quickly. There are various models on the market, this one is slightly dearer as it has the facility to alter how much water it dispenses on each boil. This is great if you have various drinking mugs of different sizes.

Now the new fishing season is nearly upon us I decided that a new elasticated strap was needed as the old one is starting to wear out. The straps I've had before have all been made out of an odd bit of elastic that I managed to get hold of. This time I decided to look for something that little bit more robust and will last a bit longer. One of the straps I had before I was made out of elasticated corset that someone didn't want any more. So I had a roof around on the Internet and found some elasticated back support that people use if they've got bad backs, or require some extra support when working. After looking around for a day or two I found one that seemed to fit the bill so ordered it. I was absolutely delighted when it arrived, it was almost made for the job. The only alterations I had to make were the removal of an extra strap that wasn't needed and the attachment of some extra Velcro. Apart from that the strap was perfect and should last for many years.

I had a nice chat with Martyn Green the other day on the phone about fishing the River Dart at Totnes the other day. I've never spoken to him before but after our telephone call had learnt so much about where to catch flounder and bass and the best ways to catch them when fishing in the River Dart. If you are looking for a fishing tutor then I don't think you could go wrong with hiring Martyn. You can hire him as a fishing tutor for as little as an hour, or a full day. According to his website he can take up to 4 people.

Just when I thought EastEnders were improving their storylines they do a storyline which involves a double-decker bus mowing several of the residents down in Albert Square.

A couple of years ago I experimented with Berkely Gulp artificial baits when fishing in the sea. I tried lugworm, ragworm and peeler crab. Even though I did get some interest in the worm baits, and never actually caught anything. With the benefit of hindsight and a few YouTube videos for help, I now realise that I should have scaled down the size of the bait for where I was actually fishing.

Huge congratulations to Brixham quiz team called Abide with Me who appeared on the TV quiz show Eggheads today and actually won. Kevin was actually playing today so being able to win against him is, even more, reason to be congratulated.

You've gone to log into the admin side of your Joomla! 3.0 website and you are confronted with a white blank page. Normally when you get an error on a Joomla! website you will actually get a display on the screen of what the error is. If it's not showing you the error then it's very difficult to work out what's wrong. I found a very simple fix for this problem.

In light of the 2017 announcement of who is going to be knighted, I feel that this trend of giving knighthoods to anyone who manages to win more than one gold medal is cheapening this highest honour.
Nobody would argue that Mo Farah or Andy Murray are at the very top of their game. Both of these gentlemen have only achieved greatness within a few years. I don't know how much charity work they do, I can't imagine either of them has much time for charity work. Even so, the knighthood is a really massive award and in my opinion, should only be given to people who have really done something special for many years throughout their life.
I would actually suggest that people like David Beckham are more deserving of a knighthood than Mo Farah or Andy Murray. Bruce Forsyth had to wait 50 years for his knighthood. Ken Dodd has been going for God knows how long, he has also just been knighted, and deservedly as well.

Way back in 1983 I watched a TV drama written by Willy Russell. The five-part serial was called One Summer and starred a very young David Morrisey. There aren't many programs from way back in the early 80s that have really stuck with me, however, One Summer affected me in a different way and I have never forgotten watching it. I recently received it as a birthday present and have just watched it again for only the second time in 33 years.
The story revolves mostly around two Liverpudlian schoolfriends, Billy, played by David Morrisey, and Icky, played by Spencer Leigh. Billy doesn't get on with either his sister or his mother and neither him or Icky have a particularly good school attendance record. The local police are out to get Billy. After getting into a dispute with another local gang Billy and Icky catch the train and run away to Wales. They're not sure where they're going in Wales, Billy holidayed there once and Wales has always been somewhere he wanted to get back to.

In light of what has been happening to some of the Olympic sports which are lottery funded I'm really not surprised that funding has been withdrawn. I reckon the lottery haven't got the money they used to have which is why they are now tightening their belts.

When autumn arrives and water temperatures drop, carp will reduce their feeding considerably. If you are planning on fishing during the colder months then there's a few important things that you should consider. The carp will normally retreat to a slightly deeper parts of the lake so fishing the margins may not be quite as good as it is during the summer months. Because the carp don't eat as much during colder months, there really is no need to pile lots of food in. So forget about lots of ground bait and pellets, and put your large method feeders away until summer arrives again. However, it's always a good idea to give the carp an incentive to come to your hook bait.

If you like your fish and chips then let me recommend arguably the best fish and chip shop in the whole of Torbay. Simply Fish is located right opposite Brixham harbour just as you come down King Street. I can honestly say I've never had a bad meal from them. They really know how to produce a really tasty battered fish.

One of my favourite swims at the Town Parks Fishery just happens to be quite snaggy to the right. The carp know whether snaggy areas are and nine times out of 10 this is where they bolt to when hooked. One of the problems with float fishing tackle around snaggy areas is that when the line is pulled through underwater foliage, the shot will often either get moved on the line, or completely ripped off. Having to reshot the line and rearrange the float every time you catch a fish can get a little bit tiresome. So I have now started using a different float fishing method which completely eliminates the need to use shot on the line.

I'm quite excited about a new set of I have purchased recently. They are manufactured by Preston Innovations and come in various different sizes and styles. The ones I have purchased are the insert dura wag adjustable loading model. If you know anything about freshwater float then you will be aware that some floats come with the weight already built into the base. The majority of the ones I have ever used require some extra shot just to bring them down to the correct depth. However, these new ones by Preston Innovations are fully weighted straight out of the packet. This means that you can simply clip them on the line and they are set up absolutely perfectly in the water. However, some people want to put some extra weight down the line, whether this be some bulk shot to take the bait down quickly, or various shot spread evenly to ensure the bait falls uniformly through the water. These floats have been designed so that you can take small increments of weight off the float in order to you to add your own weight. You simply unscrew the base and slip one of the weights off which come in the form of a small metal ring.
