Carp Fishing Torbay Devon | New Barn Farm | Town Parks |
There are various carp fishing ponds & lakes in Torbay. I shall concentrate on wheelchair accessible venues such as New barn Angling Centre, Charlcombe & Spring Ponds in Torquay. Many of these ponds hold double-figure carp, some into a mid-20s. Charlcombe Pond in Torquay is one of my favourite fishing venues in Torbay. Fishing can be excellent in the summertime. Ground bait with pellets and use a variety of baits such a sweetcorn, pellets, paste, bread, maggots, and various meat baits. The margins can be particularly productive at Charlcombe. It's very shallow, around a foot deep. Fishing techniques need only be simple when fishing this close in. The lift method works extremely well and I caught many carp using this method. I also like using a 4 1/2 metre margin pole, it enables me to sit back from the water and fish break close into the margin. Just up the road from Charlcombe are Spring Ponds. The carp in these ponds average around two pounds and catching 100 carp in one days fishing is not unknown. If you want constant action in these ponds then I would recommend feeder fishing. There are various ways of fishing the feeder, I found that the most productive type are the ones that you mould the feeder mix around. You don't need to go for a big method feeder, I prefer to use the very small ones. The rod I use is a very light feeder rod using eight pound line. The feeder mix I use are actually pellets that have been soaked in hot water. If you use boiling hot water, it doesn't take very long for the pellets to become very mushy. All you do is mould a small amount around the feeder and you are away. Sweetcorn and pellets are excellent bait to use here Charlecombe

Charlecombe pond is located in Torquay and consists of two waters, the larger of which has recently been drained and de-silted; it provides excellent sport on light tackle for the carp, bream, roach and tench angler. Spring Ponds
Spring pond is located in Torquay. These are three small farm ponds that were originally excavated as trout waters. All the ponds are well stocked with carp, averaging 2lbs with the odd fish running to low double, tench, roach and bream. These waters provide almost guaranteed action and are well worth finding!
New Barn Angling Centre
New barn Angling Centre is located on the edge of Paignton. The photograph shows Mirror Lake: This is the main carp lake, covering 1.25 acres with an island and underwater plateaus. Depths average 12ft and go to 14ft with shale sides and a silty bottom. There are 9 swims with huts plus other swims. The lake is stocked with 200 carp (from 7lb to 29lb), roach, rudd, perch (up to 3lb) and eels (7lb+). The best baits for carp are boilies, pellets, sweetcorn, and floating bread (a killer in summer!). Town Parks Angling Centre
Town parks fishery is located not far from new barn Angling Centre and consists of two lakes. It has a specimen lake which has 250 carp ranging Up to 30lb. There are also catfish present. There is also a match lake absolutely tons of smaller carp but is easier fishing
