Brixham Seagulls
Brixham SeagullSeagulls, horrible, dirty, filthy creatures. There are literally thousands upon thousands of them here in Brixham.  It doesn't matter where you go, you will come across a seagull.  Probably the worst place is down at Brixham Harbour.  Mind you, it's not surprising, people will insist on feeding them, you can't really blame the seagulls, if there is a chance of a free meal, they are going to hang around. The problem is, the seagulls at Brixham are becoming quite tame and they certainly are not frightened of humans anymore.  The seagulls will approach people who are eating and almost bully them into throwing food down on the floor.  In many cases, the seagull will actually steal food out of people's hands.  This may sound funny to many people, however, a seagulls beak is very powerful and can inflict nasty injuries if the seagull grabs hold of your finger as well as the food.

I would like to appeal to anyone who either lives in Brixham, or  maybe planning a holiday here to under no circumstances feed the seagulls. They don't need feeding, a seagull is more than capable of flying out to sea and catching food, the more people who feed them, the more the problem will persist.   It will only get worse if people insist on feeding seagulls.  There are plenty of signs around the harbour asking people not to feed the seagulls, these signs have been put there for very good reason, seagulls can be dangerous, especially around children.
